Junior's Win Is EXACTLY What The Dr. Ordered

By Mark Young

Unless you have spent the past day and a half under a rock, you already know that Dale Jr. won the Daytona 500 last night.  His face is everywhere this morning and every sports and news outlet on TV, radio, and the web is talking all about it.  NASCAR is a buzz again, Junior nation and Earnhardt fans young and old are rejoicing this day.  Whether you are a Dale Jr. fan or not, you should be happy too.  Why?  Because Jr.'s win is exactly what the sport needed.
I am, and always have been a huge fan of Jr. so this is easy for me to understand but put your allegiances aside for a few minutes and look at the big picture.  It is no secret that NASCAR has been suffering for the past several years.  Seats go unsold at every track on the circuit.  Fans have lost interest.  TV ratings are down.  Sponsorship is dwindling.  There are lots of reasons as to why, many blame the dominance of Jimmie Johnson, others blame NASCAR's management for changing everything from rules, The Chase, and the car.  People don't like change and they don't like seeing one team always win (unless of course you are a fan of that team).

Junior's victory is going to re-energize the sport.  A feel good story is what NASCAR needed.  No jet driers exploding.  No drivers losing their composure and going off on reporters.  No tire failures that take out half the field.  This positive exposure is good for everyone.  Teams looking for sponsors can ride the wave of momentum created by this win.  Is Junior going to win the title?  Will he even win another race this season?  Nobody knows but I can assure you that more people are going to tune in next Sunday to find out.

The success of Dale Junior is just what the Doctor ordered.

  3. Good win. Much needed for Jr. and H.M.S. Obviously a crowd favorite. But I disagree that this is what the Doctor ordered, when it comes to fixing the state of Nascar. It is a great story for about a week, both Jr.'s win and the whole Austin Dillon week. But it won't fix what is wrong I'm pretty sure it will get an honorable mention at Phoenix, then we'll move on. I truly believe That Jr. could win a championship and yes, it would be great for the sport, but it won't fix what is wrong. Congrats to Jr. & Steve. Great race!
